The Rubin Recap, Issue 32 ...

In partnership with

Hard to watch a Hollywood legend torch his legacy with extreme TDS, and why is Jen Psaki suddenly taking shots at JD Vance?

On the first leg of the flight to Australia, I watched The Godfather II. I hadn’t seen it in six, maybe seven years, but came away thinking the same thing I thought the last time I saw it. Great. Movie. One of the best ever.

Why am I telling you this? Because one of the most compelling things about the movie was Robert DeNiro’s performance as a young Vito Corleone. And at almost the same time I was watching the movie, DeNiro was on MSNBC absolutely losing his mind, spewing all types of TDS insanity.

Maybe the most unhinged thing DeNiro said during the segment was that White House adviser Stephen Miller is a Nazi. He actually said that about a Jewish man, while acknowledging that Miller is Jewish. That’s not just your garden-variety crazy — that’s batshit crazy.

What’s even crazier is that MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart didn’t push back. At all. He just gave DeNiro free rein to say whatever maniacal thought came into his head.

And what is this really accomplishing? For one thing, it’s a great example of the artist ruining the art. I cannot watch DeNiro at this point — who’s been in many great movies, Godfather II, Goodfellas, Casino, the list goes on — without thinking about his deranged political views. I bet you can’t either. Heat, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver — not fully ruined, but all tarnished.

It’s sad on some level, and it’s hard to watch. And not only did DeNiro smear Trump and people in his administration — he smeared everyday Americans. Ordinarily, I would type out the full quote for you, but it was just too incoherent. Better to just watch it. Essentially, he went on to make strange hand gestures and rant about Middle America voters who don’t know better than to support Trump. DeNiro’s legacy should be his movies. Instead, he’s become a pawn of the far left who is trotted out from time to time to spread propaganda and bash Trump and his supporters.

Frankly, it’s so bad I don’t think they’re going to be able to cast DeNiro when they make the movie about this NBA-mafia-linked poker gambling scandal that the FBI just busted. What a wild story. I’m sure Scorsese will direct the movie based on it in a few years, but DeNiro would just ruin it, so they’ll probably have to go with Al Pacino instead.

I have no idea what’s going on over at the televised mental institution known as MSNBC. You obviously can’t get any news there, but take a look at our sponsor today. It’s an emerging newsletter — it’s important for me to make you all aware of new and good things — and it’s pretty much the opposite of MSNBC. No propaganda. Just political news. Check it out, and then more below, including — wait, what?! — two sit-down interviews of the week.

Speaking of MSNBC crazies, did you see former White House press secretary Jen Psaki this week was suddenly taking nasty and unprovoked shots at JD and Usha Vance? Same playbook, btw, the Dems and media tried with DeSantis when he was running for president, and they thought he might be the nominee. Here’s what she said during a podcast appearance this week:

“I think the little Manchurian candidate —JD Vance — wants to be president more than anything else,” she started, before taking a U-turn and slamming first lady Usha Vance. “I always wonder what's going on in the mind of his wife. Like, are you okay? Please blink four times. We'll come over here. We'll save you.”

Talk about a classless way to treat the first lady, acting as though she’s some sort of hostage. And totally unprovoked. Usha Vance seems lovely, she appears to be a loving mother of two kids. Even MSNBC viewers were turned off by that attack.

Here’s the rest of Psaki’s remarks about JD:

“He's scarier [than Trump] in certain ways. He's smarter in some ways, and he's young and ambitious and agile in the sense that he is a chameleon who makes himself into whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear from him. But I don’t know that he can take the whole movement with him,” she said, concluding, “He’s got no rizz. He’s just a little odd.”

Wowwwwwww. How about that expert analysis from Jen Psaki? He’s got no rizz. I guess he’s got no drip, and no motion. Probably doesn’t know what 6 7 is.

You can see what’s happening, people. The Democrats are going to try to do this to whoever ends up making a bid to succeed Trump. They’ll try to define that person as “scary” and “uncool.” At this point, most likely, it’ll be JD Vance running in 2028 — and how do you know that? By the fact that people like Jen Psaki are doing these unprovoked attacks on Vance, and it’s not even 2026 yet. Fear is all they’ve got. Remember that.

If you’re paying attention at all to the NYC race, there’s finally some good news to report. At the debate on Thursday night, Andrew Cuomotose (as I like to call him, because it seems like he’s been walking around in a coma this entire race) finally woke up out of whatever stupor he’s been in and went on the attack against communist candidate Zohran Mamdani.

You gotta watch this highlight because, for the first time, Cuomo really summed up what Mamdani actually is — and he did it all in under one minute. Might be too little too late, but it might also be the beginning of the miracle that NYC needs. And trust me — NYC is in need of a miracle right now.

That’s right, people, we’ve got not one but two sit-down interviews of the week for you this week. Bill O’Reilly and former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. And after that, the Top Trump Peeps poll and a roundup of some of the other appearances I’ve made while “down under.”

SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Bill O’Reilly makes a shocking prediction about what will happen to NYC if Mamdani wins

The very first TV appearance I ever made was when I entered the “No-Spin Zone” about 15 years ago on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News show, which at the time was the highest-rated show in cable news history. He’s got a new book, Confronting Evil, out, so we talked about the timeliness of all the hell that broke loose the day after the book was released. We also discussed a range of topics — from Mamdani leading in the polls in the NYC mayor’s race, to what’s driving Gavin Newsom and JP Pritzker’s hatred of Donald Trump, to the collapse of the mainstream media. Always a thrill to talk with a broadcasting legend.

SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Tony Abbott, former prime minister of Australia

Being that I’m down under for nearly two weeks, I thought I’d talk to some big names here. And in Australia, there’s almost no name in the politics world bigger than Tony Abbott, who was prime minister from 2013-2015, and leader of the Liberal Party from 1994 to 2019 while a member of Parliament. He talked about the special bond shared by the world’s English-speaking countries, Australia’s close alliance with the U.S. — the current prime minister just signed a key minerals deal with Trump — and he weighed in on why he thinks Western civilization is in trouble. Great getting to talk with him again. Be sure to watch the full conversation.

Vance jumps back to top of power rankings

Ya take Donald Trump out of the power rankings and suddenly things get very interesting again. Rubin Recap readers really spread the love around this week to various Trump admin officials, and JD Vance came out on top, narrowly winning over Marco Rubio. I don’t know if Jen Psaki subscribes to this newsletter, but if she does and has been seeing Vance at or near the top of these rankings week in and week out, maybe that explains her coming out with that wild attack on JD this week.

Also, I saw one of you commented and said, “I would like to nominate Sean Duffy for keeping air travel working and safe” amid the Schumer shutdown, so I put him in this week’s poll. Something tells me you’re all going to put JD on top again next week. We’ll see. Get your vote in ⬇️
