đź’¬ The Rubin Recap: The Sunday return to normalcy ...

There was some good news this week that you may have missed

Welcome again to the Sunday edition of The Rubin Recap. In case you missed last week’s installment, I’m now sending the newsletter twice a week, although the Friday and the Sunday editions will be distinct from each other. As you may have noticed, The Rubin Report has a new tagline after all these years: “A Show For Normal People.”

I thought it was time for a change because, as I mentioned last week, the times they are a changin’.

And that’s what I’m devoting this Sunday edition of the newsletter to — how the times are changing. How America has been undergoing a return to normalcy since Trump began his second term — sometimes in small ways that can get lost in all the day-to-day noise. It’s important to acknowledge these small victories, and I’ll point them out and amplify them here in this Sunday “Return to Normalcy” edition of the newsletter.

The “Return to Normalcy” edition will be a bit shorter than what arrives in your inbox on Fridays and will also include the Sit-Down Interview of the Week, which I’ve always thought has a more Sunday-ish feel. Having said that, let the normalcy begin …

Dialing down the gender transitioning mutilation of children

There was some good news this week that you may have missed because it didn’t make the biggest headlines. NYU Langone Health, one of New York City’s largest health systems, somewhat quietly decided to stop providing gender transitioning drugs and surgeries to children. And a surgeon. Dr. Ira Savetsky, who used to work for the hospital system apologized, saying he “failed to speak up” about what was going on with children there.

Think about what a significant step toward a return to normalcy this is.

For the better part of the last decade, ordinary Americans have been told that every child’s urge to question their sex must be indulged — even in the most extreme ways, with chemical and surgical mutilation. Often, those urges have been triggered and then nurtured in public schools, without parents’ knowledge. And then, according to Savetsky, some parents were even pressured into allowing children as young as 13 to undergo “irreversible” surgeries.

Decent people have been told to disbelieve their eyes and ears and have been called bigots for rejecting the idea that children should be allowed to undergo hormone therapies and permanent surgeries in a misguided attempt to change their genders. Do I even need to mention most states require people to be 18 in order to do something as permanent as getting a tattoo?

Everyday Americans have been subjected to a litany of manufactured propaganda terms like “gender-affirming care” and ordered to respect “they/them” pronouns, even in email signatures at work. Some were booted from social media altogether for “misgendering” or “deadnaming” — more phony propaganda terms — an individual. Others have been ostracized for having the nerve to say that boys (who think they’re girls) shouldn’t be allowed to compete in girls sports. Crazy town had become crazier than ever.

Thanks to pressure from President Trump and his administration, American culture is reverting back to more normal times. Last year, a week into his second term, Trump issued an executive order aimed at preventing these depraved medical professionals from “sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions.”

Last month, Bobby Kennedy’s Health and Human Services Department threatened to withhold federal funds for hospitals that continue to provide gender reassignment procedures for children. All told, more than 40 hospitals around the nation have stopped providing gender transition surgeries for kids since Trump took office again, with NYU Langone now basically admitting: “Hey, we were fine sterilizing confused kids when the checks cleared — but now that Trump’s in charge, suddenly we’ve grown a conscience.”

Good.

And earlier this month, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons became the first major U.S. medical group to formally oppose permanent gender reassignment surgeries for children. Hopefully, more will follow.

Instrumental as they’ve been, it’s not just the Trump administration that deserves credit for the beginning of what could be a sea change in our culture. Many prominent Americans like Elon Musk — and even non-Americans like J.K. Rowling — have spoken out against the trans hysteria. Also, everyday people have held the line, even with small acts of defiance, like rejecting pronoun compliance. Lawyers have zealously represented childhood gender transitioners, who later regretted undergoing the procedures, in malpractice suits against these barbaric doctors and hospitals. Hopefully, more surgeons, like Dr. Savertsky, will speak out.

There’s still a long way to go — look no further than the recent transgender shootings in Canada and Rhode Island to see that the excesses of the last decade are still bound to ripple through society for some time. But we’re getting there. This is peak 2026 energy. The atmosphere created by the Trump administration to dial down this gender madness, and then the culture responding by beginning to do just that, are evidence that we are returning to normalcy on this front.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna on why the SAVE Act must be passed into law

I talk a lot on The Rubin Report about the illegal immigration insanity that has taken over Europe, and Anna Paulina Luna has put together a foreign affairs committee on mass migration in Europe. We each focus on this topic for the same reason — so that we don’t make the same disastrous mistakes here in America that have been made across Europe, with the exception of places like Hungary.

It was great to chat with Congresswoman Luna, who is a U.S. Representative from the free state of Florida. We discussed the situation in Europe as well as illegal immigration here in America, the philosophy behind sanctuary cities, and how the whole concept is meant to be divisive and disastrous. Congresswoman Luna is a major supporter of the SAVE Act, which was passed in the House last week. She talked about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s hypocrisy on immigration and why he and other Democrats who once were much more moderate have now become leftwing extremists. She also weighed on on the drawdown of ICE agents in Minnesota. We covered a ton of ground in just 22 minutes. Make sure to watch.

Until next week … — Dave
